Empire 30th Anniversary Collection

For the past couple of weeks, I've been working on art for a limited edition print celebrating the 30th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back. 12 artists have been commissioned to depict a scene from the film. Each month, a new print will be released, telling the story in chronological order.

Artists include:

Tom Hodges
Chris Trevas
Me
Cat Staggs
JAKe
Russell Walks
Katie Cook
Jamie Snell
Amy Beth Christensen
Michael Fleming
Alex Pardee
Paul Ballard

The scene I'm working on involves Luke and R2 discovering a strange little creature on some planet Ben said to go to.

Read all about it here.

Ewokong: Star Wars Galaxy 5 Base Card

Here's the base card I did for Star Wars Galaxy 5. The 120 card collection will be released February 24, 2010 and will feature new base card artwork, sketch cards, foil cards, the art of Star Wars Celebration and more.

This project was a dream come true. I've been a Star Wars fan as far back as I can remember so it was extremely exciting to be able to really stretch my muscles in this universe.

And I found that as I get older, my affinity for Ewoks grows. Maybe it's part of myself wanting to return to my youth and the days when "Jedi" was released or maybe it's a realization that they're actually pretty vicious lil guys. And, yes, they're cute but there's also something quite unsettling about them. The human like teeth? The black, beady eyes? Their hunger for flesh?

Feel free to turn the comments section into a dissection of the Ewok and their merits or lack thereof...

Here are the various stages of the piece:

And happy birthday, Mom.

DKE Toys and AdFunture present the Custom Yoka Show

Hey all,

The Yoka Tour continues...

Following up the premiere of the Custom Yoka Show in November at DesignerCon, the show is making it’s SECOND stop at Black Maria Gallery in Los Angeles.

AdFunture provided their 3” blank Yoka panda bear vinyl figures and DKE Toys co-founders Dov Kelemer and Sarah Jo Marks found over 200 artists to participate in the Custom Yoka Show. Featuring work from 20 countries the show turns the quirky little panda into everything from a dirty thug to a sweet snail in this tremendous exhibition. Pieces range from $25 to $800 and will be available for purchase through Black Maria Gallery.

The Custom Yoka Show is meant to coincide with the release of Yoka Series One, a blind boxed collectible figurine that is now available. http://www.adfuntureworkshop.com/feature_show.php?ft_id=42

    Star Wars Galaxy 5 Announced

A year after the previous set, Topps will release Star Wars Galaxy 5. The new set will feature new base card artwork, sketch cards, foil cards, the art of Star Wars Celebration and more.

I'm excited to announce that I'll have a card in the base set and I'll be doing a yet undecided amount of die cut sketch cards. I don't think I'm allowed to talk about the subject matter of the card yet but I'll give you a hint: it involves a creature and the Galactic Empire.

    That was terrible, I know.

I'll post the art as soon as Topps okays it.

Star Wars Galaxy 5 is set to be released in February, 2010.

And here's the interview I did for Star Wars Galaxy 4 in case you missed it:
